Ideas Fair Results

Here is what you told us:

Comments on planned Armory Rehabilitation and Addition:

þ  Possible Town office entrance off Third (a more obvious way to enter Town Hall)

þ  Bank- Amory pedestrian pathway out of the mud

þ  Relocate dumpsters

þ  Boardwalk ties Armory to downtown

þ  Relocate kitchen/multipurpose room – restrooms to west

þ  Consider outside BBQ cooking location close to kitchen/backside entrance

þ  Multipurpose/South Side

þ  Rooms must be well used and planned

þ  Outside space use/ park-like

þ  Area identified as Town Hall future office if needed

þ  Check appropriate parking count.

þ  Parking could expand to the south side of the alley.

þ  Address drainage issues.

þ  Tie in boardwalk on north side.

þ  Trash enclosures or relocate trash dumpsters to the east.

þ  Parking Lot Gravel.  Source from Gunnison County that affords better drainage.

þ  Open Space is important in the back.

þ  Snow removal is an issue.

þ  Possible use of a temporary cover for the north entrance to mitigate snow build-up.

þ  Dennis recommends a cover over the fire pit similar to San Juan Ranch.

þ  Add picnic tables to the Open Space Area.

þ  Open space for events and Family Reunions.

þ  Rent Armory as revenue source.

þ  More office space for future town offices.  Recreation Office, Water and Sanitation Offices.

þ  Multi-purpose space was called in to question regarding the use/need. (Six Multi-Purpose spaces were noted in town.)

þ  Provide front entrance from the north and extend the town offices.

þ  More obvious way to get in to Town Hall.

þ  ADA Entrance on 3rd Street or Bluff Street.

þ  Check emergency egress conditions.

þ  May use current exercise room for future office space and/or Town Offices.

þ  Add a south exit from the Armory.

þ  Possibly increase cleanup deposit amount to insure the building remains clean.

þ  Baffling and Sound Attenuation needs.

þ  Provide an audio system for the hearing impaired. “thehearingloop.org”

þ  Room signage with Braille lettering.

þ  ADA compliant entrances.

þ  Provide a 6’-0” door from the Armory to Storage Area for tables.

þ  Remove the bleachers from the Armory.

þ  The restrooms are not looked upon favorably.

þ  Uses of the Armory Building should still include sports like indoor soccer, basketball and volleyball.

þ  The climbing wall is not managed and not currently used by the students interviewed.

þ  Reopen the Fire House door into the Meeting Room.

þ  Establish a formal entrance to Town Hall.

þ  Ping Pong table location.

þ  Upstairs could be used for light storage or offices.

þ  Suggestion that the upstairs could be used as a “business incubator.”

þ  Teen Center needs to have access to the Main Armory.

þ  Don’t change the look of the Armory.

þ  Construction of a commercial kitchen approximately 300 square feet.  Use the Don Comstock drawing for the Art Gallery as the basis of design.  Include a freezer.  Possibly open the kitchen with a bar top for cooking classes and catering functions.

þ  Position the Kitchen against south wall for proximity to Armory.

þ  Convert the existing small weight room into the Kitchen Space.

þ  Provide for a van to back up to the kitchen.

þ  Access from the Kitchen to an outside cooking area.  Specifically BBQ pit.

þ  Align Restrooms/Kitchen for direct access to the Armory.

þ  Generator is okay however the Armory/Town Hall will not be considered Critical Infrastructure.

þ  Suggestion to use a propane generator.  Local gas pumps do not operate without electricity.

þ  Regardless of Code Plumbing count, increase the Men’s Water Closets to a minimum of 2 stalls and 2 urinals; increase the Women’s restroom to a minimum of 4 stalls.

þ  Tighten up the building envelope.  (Currently have 1 air exchange per hour.)

þ  Possible installation of Solar Photovoltaic panels.

þ  Possible use of volunteer labor such as the Youth Corps.

Fears:

K  I am not afraid. I will be fine.

K  ATV/OHV’s on residential streets

K  That people won’t get along and get things done.

K  Large capital projects = long term financial commitments. YES!

K  Too fast growth!

K  Loss of Historic Sites/Homes

K  Beetles – Dead Trees

K  Too many “multi-purpose” rooms

K  Too many metal buildings

K  Breakdown in communication amongst govt/organizations/businesses

K  Wildfire!

K  May not be able to afford the annual maintenance costs for these projects.

Hopes:

C  Have more fun!

C  School gym!

C  Memorial Park pavilion is a no brainer!

C  Authentic collaboration

C  Taxing entities do not over extend themselves

C  Town wide Wi-Fi

þ  Small Business Incubator

þ  Improved snow plow plan for downtown snow storage

þ  Expansion of Ski Hill: 1) Single track bike trail, 2) multi-stage zip lines, 3) expansion of Frisbee Disc Golf Course (18 holds), 4) water wells for snow-making and bathrooms.

þ  Keep all trees around school and plant more!

þ  Pavilion at Memorial Park will be a great use for everyone!

þ  We need a unified and long term commitment by the County, Town, Chamber and DIRT to improve our economic climate.

þ  Ice skating/hockey should utilize the Lake. Perfect conditions, great outdoors. Super ice conditions.

þ  An astronomy observatory in Memorial Park. YES!

þ  Build Zamboni house @ County boat dock.

þ  A lobbyist/advocacy voice for Lake City/Hinsdale County that communicates on a regular basis with our state and federal “representatives” about our needs and priorities.

þ  Cross Country Ski Trail and snowshoe trail system YES!

þ  A small hotel, lodge, inn that accentuates the historical nature of the area and which can serve as a weekend getaway year round.

þ  Downtown ATV route for riders coming from Henson.

þ  Expanded trailmix path system for entire downtown.

þ  Move weight room to West End of the Armory on concrete floor immediately to prevent further damage.

þ  Well done banners, signs that promote activities & event in Lake City. It can be regulated but we sorely need tis to promote ourselves to visitors.

þ  Create a small business that will pack and ship out internet sales for local businesses.

þ  Build a school gym and parking lot on school grounds. Parks & Rec redirect to Memorial Park and the Lake.
